In 2007 the 1098 had barely made its way to the dealerships when Ducati decided to create an all new super bike. Rather than use other manufacturers concepts to set the bench mark, Ducati set their own objectives, to loose 10kg from the weight of the 1098 and to produce 195bhp from a 1200cc V-twin engine. The Panigale is named after the region near Bologna, known as “Motor Valley”, where high performance and racing runs through the veins of its passionate people. The Panigale uses Moto GP technology in its engine and chassis, replacing belts with a chain and gear cam drive, and a monocoque aluminium chassis (first time on any production bike), new wheels, new brakes and new state of the art control systems.
